Abstract
In the paper a potential possibility of using a lead–bismuth eutectic (LBE) with the modified isotopic composition as the accelerator-driven system PDS-XADS target material is considered. Neutron and proton spectra of the target consisted of 80% lead isotope Pb-208 and 20% bismuth are given. In such a target a harder neutron spectrum is reached as compared with the neutron spectrum of the target consisted of the conventional LBE. Due to depleting the target with neutrons of 10–100 keV energy for which Bi-209 has large cross-sections of radiation neutron capture and due to reducing its content in the LBE from 55% to 20% the induced activities of Po-210 and Bi-207 are reduced.
