Abstract

The heavy liquid metal coolant technology (lead and lead-bismuth) is a set of measures that make it possible to do the following:
– to prepare the coolant for filling the primary circuit of the reactor facility;
– to maintain the conditions in the coolant so as to ensure corrosion resistance of structural steels;
– to perform purification of the coolant from solid-phase slag based both on lead oxides and oxides of structural steels’ components;
– to clean up the cover gas from aerosols of the coolant and corrosion products;
– to perform diagnostics of the circuit state.
To implement a set of measures, special methods and means are required, which include:
– sensors of the oxygen thermodynamic activity;
– mass transfer apparatus;
– devices for entering a gas mixture into a heavy liquid metal coolant;
– filters of heavy liquid metal coolant;
– protective gas filters;
– hydrogen igniter;
– gas humidifiers;
– condensers;
– methods of automated control;
– methods of preparation of the coolant before loading and its loading into the reactor facility;
– methods of diagnostics (indication) of the state of the circulation circuit.
In the course of development of each element of the coolant management technology, the IPPE JSC team performed the R&D work that resulted in certain achievements in the field of knowledge under consideration. The paper considers the main scientific and technical achievements in the area of heavy liquid metal coolant technology within the period from 2000 to 2021.
