Abstract
This work presents the results of Monte Carlo modelling of neutron processes in the RENMC neutron multiplicity counter in the SERPENT software environment. The aim is to calculate calibration coefficients: neutron registration efficiency and coincidence selection coefficient – taking into account their dependence on neutron-physical properties of the analyzed samples. The created model was tested on certified objects of metallic plutonium AO 95 505/531-44-2021, SP-1 and plutonium dioxide
GEO-8454-2003, with which calibration measurements on the RENMC counter were performed. In the present work the approach to size transfer from certified objects to the analyzed samples is developed using the mathematical model constructed as a comparison technique. The results of measurements with three packages of TUK-30 with plutonium dioxide from PA “Mayak” were considered, one of which was found to have an increased fluorine content. This container was repacked into 5 VNIINM containers layer by layer. In total, calculations were performed for three TUK-30 containers and five VNIINM containers. To clarify the spectrum and neutron yield (α, n) of the reaction, calculations were performed using the NEDIS 2.0 software. The results of the work serve to justify the applicability of the developed model of the RENMC counter for the adjustment of calibration coefficients in the methods of measuring the effective mass of plutonium-240.
