Abstract

To study the heat transfer processes in a WWER steam generator operating in an emergency condensing mode, a GE-2M stand was built at JSC SSC RF – IPPE. Three series of experiments were performed on the stand with different scenarios and initial parameters. The main task was to determine the effect of non-condensable gases on heat exchange processes occurring in the SG tube bundle.
In the first series of experiments, it was determined that the power of the steam generator model does not decrease below 80 % due to the inflow of non-condensable gases into the tube bundle, even in the worst simulated scenario. The presence of various factors on the operation of the steam generator was revealed. The influence of the composition of non-condensable gases on the heat exchange processes occurring in the steam generator was determined.
During the final series of experiments, the operation of the steam generator in emergency mode without the removal of non-condensable gases was studied. The maximum duration of autonomous operation of passive systems was determined in various accident scenarios.
To study the effect of mass transfer processes between the containment and the reactor, the GE-2M stand was modernized by adding a working section with containment and reactor imitators. A series of experiments were carried out at the stand with imitation of a break in the “cold” and “hot” branches of the main circulation pipeline. Also in the experiments, the maximum possible duration of operation of steam generators in the condensing mode after the cessation of the removal of non-condensable gases into the volume of hydraulic reservoirs of the GE-2 system was investigated.
