Abstract

The paper presents a brief description of the history of the creation of a scientific school in the field of research on heat and mass transfer, physical chemistry and technology of coolants in energy systems, formed at the Institute of Physics and Power Engineering (IPPE) during the formation and development of nuclear power engineering. The following are considered: the primary tasks solved by the IPPE thermophysical team at different stages of the formation of a scientific school; the conditions for the formation of human resources and test facilities, the current state of these issues. The results of the main research areas are presented: hydrodynamics, mass and heat exchange in various coolant (water, liquid metals), physical chemistry and technology of liquid metal coolant for nuclear power plants for various purposes, heat pipes with liquid metals, the development of numerical modeling methods and numerical codes, innovative projects, systematization, analysis and generalization data from thermophysical studies. It is noted that an important factor in the formation of the scientific school was the interaction with related teams of the FEI and other organizations working to solve the problems of creating nuclear power plants. Main activities of the scientific school today and in the future are being discussed. The appendix lists monographs (43 titles), textbooks (38 titles) and reference books (16 titles) written by members of the scientific school and with their participation.
