Abstract

Currently, the issue of decommissioning is one of the most important due to the fact that the service life of most research nuclear facilities in the world has been completed or is approaching the limit of their operation. The next stage of decommissioning of these facilities, as part of the life cycle of a nuclear facility, is a technically complex process that is only developing and growing in our country.
The purpose of this article is to provide descriptive information and general information on the design, engineering and operational characteristics of the IRV-M2 research nuclear reactor and to provide information on its preparation for decommissioning.
Description of the main stages of the processes of the work carried out to remove nuclear fuel from the site of the IRV-M2 research nuclear reactor as part of the implementation of the activities of the Federal Target Program FTP NRS “Ensuring the Safe Handling of Spent Nuclear Fuel of Nuclear Research Facilities” in the period from 2020 to 2022.
The planned and used decommissioning methods and measures for handling radioactive waste during decommissioning at the production site of the IRV-M2 research nuclear reactor of JSC "Research Institute of Instruments" are described. Also briefly presented is an analysis of the current state of the radiation situation in a number of rooms of the IRV-M2 research nuclear reactor, the main tasks and proposed solutions to ensure radiation safety during the decommissioning of the IRV-M2 research nuclear reactor at JSC Scientific Research Institute of Instruments.
