Abstract

Universal connecting elements (adapters, fittings) for hydraulic channels of complex or atypical shape or two channels of different shapes, including when the axes of the channels do not coincide, are considered. The use of such adapters is advisable when it is difficult to manufacture shaped elements for connecting channels with different cross-sectional shapes or when it is difficult to manufacture a rotary device for a channel of complex shape. The connectors in question have a simple geometric shape that does not depend on the shape of the passage section of the channels being connected. The simplicity of the adapter's shape is determined by the expansion of the flow space in the adapter compared to the channel. The hydraulic losses that occur during the expansion of the jet depend on the length of the expansion section. If the length of the expansion section is small, then the local losses in such a device are small. Computational studies have been carried out to substantiate the design of the adapters. The task was to find the minimum length of the adapter while maintaining the velocity profile in the output channel. The following results were obtained. The length of the direct adapter (the axes of the input and output channels coincide) should be 1.5–2 hydraulic diameters of the input channel. For a rotary adapter (90 degrees), the radius of the circle tangent to which the channel axes are should be 1.5–2 widths of the input channel in the plane of rotation, the center of the circle should be inside the adapter space.
